Basic formula

Electricity cost = watts ÷ 1000 × hours used × electricity price per kWh × days.

Example

A 1000 W appliance used 2 hours per day for 30 days uses 60 kWh. If electricity costs 0.20 per kWh, the cost is 12.

Why watts matter

Watts show how much power an appliance uses. Higher wattage usually means higher running cost.

Practical use

This calculation helps compare heaters, air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, lights and other appliances.
